PLASTIC People offers a practical solution to the plastic waste pollution. We focus in plastic waste transformation offering a creative, economically sustainable, environmental and social solution. By transforming plastic waste into valuable materials and high quality end products we increase the value of the plastic waste. This added value is the key to feed a circular economy model where we make profitable the different stages of this process starting from the most vulnerable stakeholders: the waste workers. As we use almost all kind of plastics, we can pay for the collection of all of them, creating new sources of income, stabilizing prices and committing long term contracts at the time that we prevent all those plastics to be burnt or disposed in landfills, rivers or oceans. Our model follows a community approach that can be rapidly implemented and replicated. Different size of centers, covering the different stages of the process, can be deployed in a decentralized network where the different centers cooperate together. PLASTICPeople wants to bring this solution wherever plastic waste is a challenge. PLASTICPeople model is applicable to urban and rural areas. It’s a proximity solution, absorbing local plastic waste and offering a scalable solution especially in areas where there is no waste management in place. Resulting in unsustainable & hazardous practices such as burning, burying or dumping. While burning of plastic can cause significant health risks, the latter two significantly contribute to environmental and especially ocean pollution. Plastic often enters waterways and eventually ends in the ocean, not only polluting fluvial and ocean systems, but also putting marine life at risk and adversely affecting the perception of visitors in affected areas. A tourist’s experience will always have a negative undertone if the destinations and the ways to the destinations are heavily scattered with trash. But the opposite is the case, if a visitor witnesses a system that contributes to a clean environment under community engagement, where the waste collectors actually earn a fair income, are trained to be waste entrepreneurs and create useful products from plastic waste.
